I was sitting on the beach in Branscombe last week listening to the waves.
I know it is sad but the sound reminded me of the white noise apps that can play sounds of waves which I occasionally listen to on my AirPods.
I then realised that I had my AirPods in and that, because of their noise cancelling feature, I wasn’t listening directly to the sound of the waves hitting my ears but the sound that was received on the microphones on the outside of the AirPods and then transferred to the speakers and thence my ears.
I then found myself wondering which was more real…
Told you it was sad…
The Obvious? 
Not sad at all. An interesting insight with profound implications.

And another thought… if, in the first instance, you neither noticed nor realised, did it matter? The more one tries to find a boundary between the supposed real and unreal the more one comes up empty handed and with no real definition of either.

Indeed. I was also enjoying the “emptiness” of the waves. We think they are separate and have definition but they have no start or end or clear edges.
